Please follow the guidelines and choose the right option for you.

Please allow 5 to 7 working days for your reviewed prescriptions to be processed and 7 working days for other types of prescription requests.

We do not accept repeat prescription requests over the phone.

Ordering a Repeat Prescription

Repeat prescriptions are reviewed every six months to one year and you may be asked to make an appointment with your doctor for a review when expired.

When you order a prescription online, you can have it sent electronically to a pharmacy of your choice. This is called a nomination.

Your Local Pharmacy

Pharmacy Ordering / Collection Service

We can forward the prescription to a local pharmacy for you, either printed or sent electronically. Please ask at the reception for an information leaflet and further details.

If you are collecting from your pharmacy please allow extra time they require.

About pharmacists

As qualified healthcare professionals, pharmacists can offer advice on minor illnesses such as:

coughs
colds
sore throats
tummy trouble
aches and pains

They can also advise on medicine that you can buy without a prescription.

In Person

You can order in person by returning the right-hand half of a previous prescription for the required medications.

Or, you can submit a handwritten request. You may also write out an order for someone else. You must include the patient's name, date of birth and requested medication.

By Post

You can post your prescription slip or written request to us at the Practice.

If you're unable to collect your prescription from the surgery, please include a stamped, addressed envelope for return by post. Please allow at least seven days if requesting your medication by post.

If you have questions about your medicine, your local pharmacists can answer these. They can also answer questions on medicines you can buy without a prescription.

Prescriptions Charges and Exemptions

Extensive exemption and remission arrangements protect those likely to have difficulty in paying charges (NHS prescription and dental charges, optical and hospital travel costs).

The NHS prescription charge is a flat-rate amount which successive Governments have thought it reasonable to charge for those who can afford to pay for their medicines. Prescription prepayment certificates (PPCs) offer real savings for people who need extensive medication.

When going abroad you can take your NHS medications with you.

These charges apply in England only. In Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales prescriptions are free of charge.

Prescribing of over the counter medicines is changing

Your GPI nurse or pharmacist will not generally give you a prescription for over the counter medicines for a range of short-term, minor health concerns.

Instead, over the counter medicines are available to buy in a pharmacy or supermarket in your local community.

The team of qualified healthcare professionals at your local pharmacy can offer clinical advice to safely and effectively manage minor health concerns.
